About the work

Cyber Maze is an experimental electroacoustic and audiovisual work exploring human identity, digital consciousness and the relationship between human creativity and artificial intelligence. Drawing on hyperpop, glitch, ambient and experimental electronic music, the composition combines AI-generated material with original vocal performance, sound manipulation and digital production.

The creative process involved an iterative collaboration with generative AI tools. A GPT-based language model was used to explore lyrical concepts, while Suno generated musical material and transformed recordings of Chen’s own voice. Rather than using AI outputs as finished compositions, Chen selected, edited, processed and recombined fragments through a cut-up approach, constructing the final work through successive creative decisions.

The audiovisual presentation extends this process into visual media. Using TouchDesigner, different musical elements and frequency regions, including drums, bass and higher-frequency content, were mapped to particle behaviours and visual effects. These audio-reactive structures were combined with layered video material, creating an evolving visual response to the composition.
