Professional practice

Chen Wang’s professional composition practice includes original musical theatre, immersive productions and interdisciplinary performance. Working collaboratively with directors, dramaturgs and performers, she develops music in response to narrative, dramatic structure and the creative requirements of each production, from songwriting and arrangement to sound design and final production.

Reincarnated as a Convenience Store 转生成为便利店

Original Musical Theatre · Central Academy of Drama · 2025–2026

Chen composed and produced the complete original score for Reincarnated as a Convenience Store, a two-hour musical theatre production staged at Duowei Theatre in Beijing.

Working closely with the director, dramaturg and performers, she led the musical development from songwriting and composition through arrangement, sound design and final audio production. The process involved adapting musical material in response to dramatic development, rehearsal feedback and performance requirements.

The project also explored AI-assisted approaches to musical theatre composition, forming the basis of Chen’s research on human–AI collaboration and creative decision-making, presented at AIMC 2026.

02 · Immersive theatre

The Moon, The Moon 月亮月亮

Immersive Theatre · Longma Society · 2025–2026

Chen was commissioned to compose 20 original pieces for The Moon, The Moon, an immersive absurdist theatre production by Longma Society, which began touring nationally in China in July 2025.

The music was developed in collaboration with the creative team, responding to the production’s dramatic narrative, staging and audience interaction. The score brings together original composition and sound production to support the changing atmosphere and theatrical experience.

03 · Current commission

Xinsheng 芯生

Original Musical Theatre · Beijing Youguang Culture Media · 2026–Present

Chen is currently working as composer and music producer for Xinsheng, an original musical theatre production developed in collaboration with the director, musical director and wider creative team.

Her work includes songwriting, score development, arrangements, demo production and musical revisions. The project was selected as one of ten works for the 2026 Great Drama in Beijing Literary and Artistic Creation Incubation Programme.
